According to the wiki (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers">http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers</a>) this

hardware does not support wireless mesh operation.<br>

The wireless stack returning "Operation not supported" is something of

a clue.<br>
