Can he use two VAPs, one for AP another for Mesh on the same radio?

This warning is triggered by a field in the ath5k_rx_status packet
descriptor, probably unrelated to mesh.  You may want to ask around on
a different list (linux-wireless?).

However, as this is only a warning and the code continues parsing the
frame  (see ath5k_tasklet_rx()), you probably can ignore it.

You need separate wireless cards, one of them managed by hostapd.
