Hi,

first of all, you should use compat-wireless (or directly
wireless-testing), as it includes everything on o11s.org and is way more
up to date.

Second, as of today, ath5k does not have support for mesh, and will not
let you create a mesh interface. Were you able to create one? Unless you
create the interface as mesh one, it will not offer any mesh
functionality.

However, ath5k does support IBSS mode, so it should be trivial to add
support for mesh. I do not have access to a ath5k device nor much time
to do it now, but if you want to add mesh support to the driver I will
be glad to help.
