thanks
i complied the o11s kernel (the first release) in my desktop with
Atheros cards and i did manage to bring that interface up with ath5k
although i am yet to test it out on multiple machines...
Thats why i decided to test it out on orbit
http://www.orbit-lab.org/wiki/FAQ
ORBIT is probable the ideal testbed for testing out open11s because the
main grid has over 400 nodes in a 20X20 setup which is fully yours for
the taking...These are fully configurable to the extent that u can use
the console to even change BIOS prompts!....

I did use ath5k for the mesh interfaces with wificonf.py on my desktop
but as i said until i can bring up those nodes on orbit i am yet to
verify as to whether it works or not

this is what i observed on ORBIT

I got it into the sandbox node 1-1 and used the .config files in the
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.22-3-686/.config and i also manually checked
for the orbit essentials like serial drivers and i also enabled the
Marvell Yukon chipset driver also. /
make-kpkg --revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image

i got the kernel and it is linux-image-2.6.24_custom.1.0_i386.deb

installed using dpkg -i //linux-image-2.6.24_custom.1.0_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package linux-image-2.6.24.
(Reading database ... 42922 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking linux-image-2.6.24 (from
linux-image-2.6.24_custom.1.0_i386.deb) ...
Done.
Setting up linux-image-2.6.24 (custom.1.0) ...
Running depmod.
Running postinst hook script update-grub.
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst
Searching for splash image ... none found, skipping ...
Found kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24
Found kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-3-686
Updating /boot/grub/menu.lst ... done

*Note: i also tried creating initrd image for 2.6.24 with update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.24
*
and then i try to do shutdown -r now all the while watching on the
telnet prompt and i can see so many basic checks and then Yukon pxe
stuff and then the grub but then it hangs with the message

Booting 'Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.24'

root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24 root=/dev/hda1 ro console=ttyS0,9600n8
initrd /boot/initrd.img.2.6.24
  [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x2a00, size=0x14fad8]
savedefault

pls lemme know if i am missing something or point me to how i can
correct things from my side...
