Hi.  The zd1211rw was used, there's a link to the Airlink 101 USB WLAN
adapter at the top of the HOWTO: http://o11s.org/trac/wiki/HOWTO-0.2.1
and the o11s git includes patches to the zd1211rw driver to enable
beaconing:
